He’s an adorable woofie with incredible caring people, as owners. Their brief was to bring out Charlie’s personality. Accordingly, displaying his personality was crucial – I could see their love for Charlie and the way they felt about him, but how to express? Through strong, sound and resilient colours which I believed, presented Charlie positively. Remember, our personalities are reflected in our furry friends.

I blurred his body enabling his personality to be captured through facial emphasis. Therefore, I concentrated on his face and used Derwent Pastels on a pastel art paper that would allow me to bring out the whites, creams and lighter tones. 

I was commissioned to do Max and his partner Stormi. He is probably the most excited and happiest dog I have ever portrayed. He is strong and powerful but incredibly affectionate, curious and intelligent. His owners are good ol’ laid back Kiwis and Max follows suit. His eyes and mouth are the very first thing a visitor would notice about him. I used Derwent pastel pencils on 160 gsm soft lemon pastel sheet. I loved doing Max’s portrait. I hope you like the final result as much as I did portraying him.
